The project data will be shared with the WASCAL Data Discovery Portal and the WASCAL Data Centre (WADI).
The project is relevant to the The Gambia for 3 reasons:
- It offers a reliable infrastructure for scientific work, strengthening research -education
cooperation between The Gambia and Germany. - The UTG/LUMGam, is expected to address the lack of data on the use of renewable energy and land use and management, deepening insights into unregulated land use in The Gambia.
The project will, through a Feasibility Study, examine the links between population growth, soil degradation, livelihood opportunities, climate change and climatic fluctuations and land use in The Gambia. The results may lead to the development of a degree curriculum on climate
change and land use management at UTG.
Finally, the project will lead to the formulation of a climate change and land use policy draft, taking into account the role of renewable energy, that could be used by The Gambia government to address land use and management challenges in The Gambia
