On behalf of Prof. Walter Leal, head of the Research and Transfer Centre Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Expert Centre on Climate Change and Health(IECCCH), we are pleased to share this call for contributions with you.
The IECCCH is organizing the Online Expert Seminar “African Approaches Towards Combatting Infectious Diseases in a Changing Climatic Environment” on 8 November 2024, from 10:00 to 13:00 CET, online.
Objective:
The primary aim of this seminar is to explore the intricate relationship between climate change and infectious diseases, particularly in the context of developing countries in Africa. We aim to facilitate discussions on disease risk management, strategies for effective communication and advocacy in addressing these critical issues.
Why this seminar matters:
Africa is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which exacerbates health risks such as malaria, diarrhea and yellow fever. This seminar will provide a comprehensive understanding of these challenges and explore innovative strategies to address them. By bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, environmental activities, and other stakeholders, we hope to foster collaboration and drive impactful solutions.
Key topics include:
-Climate Change and its role in the transmission of infectious diseases in Africa.
-Climate Change and the role of urbanization on infectious disease transmission in Africa.
-Climate Change impacts and role of public health policies and strategies in addressing infectious diseases in Africa.
-Climate Change, community engagement and role of education for disease prevention in Africa.
-Climate Change and technology-driven disease surveillance, early warning and response systems in Africa.
-Climate Change and prevalence of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Africa.
