Project Officials led by Senior Researcher Dr Mamma Sawaneh Saturday 12th April 2025, presided over the first Onion harvest of farmers at the Bulock pilot site. The team also inspect the trial onion experiments as there growth caught the eyes of researchers. For the first time in the history of the garden, farmers were able to harvest significant amounts of kilograms of onions according to there testimonies. An old woman, Fatou Jarjue who is in her 70 years was able to harvest 56.95Kg on onion while Fatoumatta Jallow harvested over 52kg among other farmers. “These is an impressive performance seeing what the farmers have achieved.” Said Dr Sawaneh. He expressed delight that farmers have now seen the fruit of their labour emphasizing the importance of technology in agricultural production. Dr Sawaneh explained the significance role played by the new drip irrigation system that has reduced drudgery for women who over the years struggled with adequate water supply in the garden.
